CARDBOARD ROCK

With a hard 5-second rule as a student, I had to use all of my knowledge of compositing and create a composite of a subject shot on a green screen, composited into an entirely synthetic environment.

This project consisted of 3 Major Parts:

  1. Pre-Production, where students will craft their ideas, rough pre-vis,
and props, within the given parameters of the project

  2. Production, where students will shoot their live-action footage and
gather relevant on-set information for their final composites

  3. Post-Production, where students will generate CG assets and bring
    the final composite together

Thinking inside
of the box

A major inspiration to me is that of music videos even more so that of mixed media, so I knew that I needed to make these five
seconds into a potential music video for one of my favorite musicians that often uses a green screen for his videos,
Jonathan Young (Jonathan Young (jonathanyoungmusic.com)).
Choosing one of his original songs I chose a
5-second clip that could let me show
off multiple shots.

Storyboard

Starting with a simple hand drawn board-a-matic to rough out the idea I used A.I. motion tracking to make an animatic in C4D with a stand-in environment and lighting.

Visual Development

From there I worked on two major aspects, the live-action footage, and the CG environment.

Nuke Compositing

I then composited and color-corrected the scenes together in Nuke.
